Academic Scholarship Program
While the Kreul Classic is widely recognized as one of the premier tournaments in the nation, the efforts of the organization exceed the boundaries of the court and extend into the South Florida community. Through the years, the non-profit 501(c)3 charity has played a varied role in numerous philanthropic endeavors, however the organization remains focused on their main goal: academic scholarships.
To date, more than $500,000 has been awarded to students irrespective of their participation in the tournament. This includes 48 four-year tuition awards to Florida Atlantic University and more than 100 monetary awards in varying amounts. Funding for the scholarship program comes from tournament proceeds and corporate partners like Publix Super Markets and A.F. Best Securities Foundation.
In May, the 2008 scholarship recipients were announced. Shane Pettus (Coral Glades High) received the Publix/Kreul Classic Scholarship and Brian Orozco (Northeast High) was awarded the A.F. Best Securities Foundation/Kreul Classic Scholarship. Recipients are selected based on their classroom performance, community involvement and need.
Businesses interested in becoming a Kreul partner in education should contact the organization at info@kreul.com. In addition to providing a student with the gift of education, partners also receive exceptional exposure through the comprehensive benefit packages of the Kreul tournament.
